Kevin Johnson

Born, bred and based in Australia, Kevin Johnson is a member of that elite club of song smiths whose works have become ingrained in the fabric of everyday life.

‘Rock & Roll I Gave You the Best Years of my Life’, which was covered by scores of artists the world over, is just one of the wonderful songs from this prolific writer. His career has spanned three decades and he continues to write, perform and record. The ‘Man of the 20th Century’ has big plans for the 21st.

In 1973, Kevin Johnson wrote and recorded one of Australia’s most endearing autobiographical rock ballads, “Rock and Roll (I gave you the best years of my life)). This was Kevin’s second Australian top ten hit, following on the success of “Bonnie, Please Don’t Go ” which reached No.2 nationally in 1971, and was a national hit for Jim Ed Brown who covered it in the USA. “Rock & Roll…” charted in the USA, UK, Europe and other countries for Kevin,and was then covered by Mac Davis in the USA reaching No.15 on the charts, Terry Jacks covered it and made Top 5 in his native Canada, The Cats version made Top3 in Holland, and there were many other successful versions, around the world, earning Kevin a number of awards and 2 BMI Citations for outstanding airplay in the USA for the years 1975 & 1976.
